FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS TRAUMA:

Trauma is an emotional response to a shattering life event which can include accidents, natural disasters, assault (sexual, intimate partner, bullying, physical), stalking, as well as witnessing a traumatic event that happened to someone else.  Trauma can also come as the result of living in highly stressful environments, battling life-altering or life-threatening illnesses and injuries, and experiencing a significant loss as a result of death, separation, and/or breakup.  While some people recover naturally and with little to no intervention there are some whose suffering is prolonged and results in pronounced negative effects.

WHAT IS TRAUMA RECOVERY COACHING AND TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE?

Combining my life coaching experience and my training and experience as a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist, I am certified and trained to help individuals and families with crisis intervention, anger management and recovery from emotionally and physically traumatic experiences. I have worked with male and female victims of sexual assault, those suffering from anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, family and relationship trauma, the severely grief-stricken, and individuals contemplating suicide and/or recovering from attempted suicide. While many people may have dealt with similar circumstances it is YOUR experiences that are the most important as we work together to discover how your experiences and particular life events may have affected how you see yourself in the world and how your cognition, behavior, and life trajectory have been negatively impacted.  By utilizing aspects of modalities such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy as well as focusing on self-awareness, emotional-intelligence, and developing manageable goals I am more than assured that we can work together to develop a specially-tailored recovery plan  that best suits your needs and stage of recovery.

The goal of trauma recovery coaching is to help trauma survivors not only recover but to also help affirm and create a life that is lived more robustly and favorably.  For some, the presence of trauma may be so overwhelming that it is believed to be their identity.  For some, this may be the first time that effort and attention was focused on recovery instead of merely surviving; you deserve the best options that life has to offer.

Trauma-informed care (TIC) acknowledges and recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and the role trauma may play in an individual’s life.  The work is geared towards discovering and remedying “what has happened to you?” as opposed to asking, “what is wrong with you?”.
